Dreaming big will get you there!

By Dange Durrett

If you had the opportunity to participate at one of the Labas Connect networking events, did you notice the beautiful decorations and center pieces that made our event so pretty? The floral designer, one of the participants, Enrika Karalius, is a talented, sweet, hardworking and very humble person. She had big dreams to become one of the best in the floral design business and did everything she could to get there.
Earlier this year in October, in San Antonio, Texas, there was the National Florist Association competition where the winners of state and regional floral competitions competed for the grand title National Designer of the year. This year’s contest theme was “San Antonio Rose”. Each contestant was required to make three designs that were designed on site – a Bridal Bouquet, a Reception Centerpiece and a Corsage. The first runner up Designer of the Year 2015 was Enrika Karalius.
Lucky me, I had an honor to interview Enrika myself as I had an opportunity to meet Enrika as one of the ambitious Lithuanian entrepreneurs! We met with Enrika after her trip to San Antonio, at her flower shop here in Lemont, IL, were she was excited to share her news and also her success secrets.

Dange: Enrika, tell me how did you get into the floral business to begin with?

Enrika: I started at a very young age at my aunt’s flower shop in Lithuania.

Dange: How did you start participating in competitions?

Enrika: I noticed a floral competition add at very well-known floral design magazine “Fusion Flowers”, made my floral design, photographed it and sent it. A few months later I received a bronze award for my bridal piece.

Dange: Being brave pays off! Have you ever had doubts about going so big?

Enrika: I believe that life begins at the end of your comfort zone. So, I challenged myself and I let my dreams be bigger than my fears.

Dange: Did you know that you are so good?

Enrika: Not really. I never considered myself that good. I think no matter how good you are, there will always be someone else out there better than you. This makes me be aware and seek for the best.

Dange: Enrika, What are the key characteristics needed to go big and become the first runner-up of the State and Regional Florist competition?

Enrika: To me the key characteristics and winning points are: be patient, have dedication, and never stop trying.

Dange:   What would be your five key points to be successful?

Enrika: My secret to success is very simple. Dream big, work hard, stay focused, surround yourself with good people, and everything will come naturally.

Dange: So, everything sound so simple according to you. I know you worked very very hard. What advice would you give to people who are thinking about following their passion and want to start their business?

Enrika: First of all you have to know the industry you are want to be in very well to be, be focused, follow your dream, believe in what you do and be dedicated.

Dange: I am so proud of you, Enrika! Thank you. Also, I know that after winning this competition, I am calling you a winner, there are a lot of changes coming up for “Royal Petal”.

Enrika: Yes. We are growing, renewing our flower shop, and great and exciting news are coming up, so stay tuned for more details.

Dange: I know that we are very lucky to have Enrika here, in West Subburbs of Chicago, in Lemont, how and where can people find you?

Enrika: You can find us on www.RoyalPetal.com, follow us on FaceBook and Instagram.

Dange: Also, you can meet Enrika at our Labas Connect networking events that are coming up in November and see Enrika’s wonderful work and décor by yourself. Enrika is the one who is decorating Labas Networking events.
